Awesome, awesome recap video of our game (the Toxic Shocks) against the Denim Demons (two of the four Atlanta Intraleague teams).
This video, like most, is jammer centric; given that I’m not much of a jammer, I don’t get much skate time. However, you can catch me getting my ass kicked jamming at 1:18. IN MY DEFENSE, that was a desperation move…The other jammer had lead, and was RIGHT behind me. She was about to call it off after getting the one easy point in the back, so I knew I had to try to get at least one to match her. The only opposing blocker near me just happened to be one of the hardest-hitting, most brutal blockers in the whole league. I felt like a crazy person jacked up on drugs or something, because I just WENT for it. As you’ll see, it didn’t quite work. :p
Kevin, the guy who puts our videos together is just AWESOME.

Close. Freaking. Games. I hate hate hated to lose, but I feel like we did well, and I’m so proud of my team. We were playing with a lot of new and newish—Four brand new ladies, a transfer, and two mid-season rookies from last year (including me)—but they played like total pros! One got MVP!
If we can get our penalties down for the next game, we’ll be freaking golden.
Personally, while I’m not yet a derby rockstar, I’m very proud of how far I’ve come since last season. We watched the video at the afterparty, and I look much more comfortable and capable. I mostly play defense, but I tried my hand…er, feet at jamming last night. It didn’t go particularly well, but it was fun and I think I’d like to keep working at it. Bonus! Only two minors the whole night, though I guess a lot of that is because I’m primarily a defensive player, so I’m not in a position to get a whole lot of penalties.

My home team is going to S.C. to play the Richland County Regulators this weekend. I’m excited, I hope their floor isn’t too slick. I’m a nervous nelly, so I bought some poisons to wear.
